  • She made her way gracefully down the stairs with ease on just two front legs One determined dog put her gymnastic skills to the test by running down the stairs using only her two front legs.

Four-year-old pointer pooch Maddi was filmed by owner Kelly Krutsch outside the family home in Chicago, Illinois.

The 37-year-old said the pup has four fully-functioning limbs but prefers to conduct a balancing act on two - or sometimes three - instead.  In the clip, the brown-and-white dog can be seen standing at the top of a set of outdoor stairs leading down to the garden.Maddi, who is wearing four paw protectors due to the snow, then spots something in the distance as Kelly encourages her from behind the camera by saying: 'Ready, go! Go Maddi, go, go girl.'

But the performing pooch seems a little reluctant so Kelly gives Maddi a nudge before shouting 'squirrel'.

Maddi needs no further encouragement as she then lifts up her rear legs and begins gracefully padding down the icy stairs.

She makes her way to the bottom with ease before dropping back down on to all four legs when she reaches level ground. Kelly, who is currently unemployed, said: 'Nothing is wrong with her. She just doesn't like to use all four legs. I guess she finds the fourth leg just gets in the way.

'By the time she was one, it was very clear Maddi would only run down the stairs using two or three legs.

'Whenever she goes into water, snow, grass, you name it, she's propped up.'

Maddi is one of two German shorthaired pointers in this suburban household and the two share an Instagram page, @pointerpawprints, which currently had more than 29,000 followers.

But her sister Sophie, who is nearly three, doesn't share the same quirky style of movement.

Kelly added: 'I haven't seen Sophie run like that at all. Maddi is the leader of the pack and she's full of energy.'
