Dogged defender: Fearless Jack Russell chases black bear out of family's yard and back into the woods

This is the hilarious moment a fearless pet chases a black bear out of its family's yard and back into the woods.

Jersey, the Jack Russell, is captured in the footage standing his ground against the bear in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

The terrier chases the animal back into the woods, even causing it to stumble in its rush to escape.

Jersey remains calm as the large bear clings on to a tree in the yard in the video uploaded by owner David Jonsson on October 12.

His wife Marissa asks: 'Is Jersey going to be okay? He's not moving,' as the small dog lies in wait at the foot of the tree.

As the bear gingerly climbs down, the family pet starts barking furiously at the startled animal.

The small white dog doesn't take his eyes off the intruder as it climbs down from the tree one last time as the children watching cheer him on

The tiny defender sends the bear scampering back up the tree when he launches another onslaught of growls.

As his family bang pots and pans to try and deter the trespassing animal, one of the children declares: 'I can't watch'.

Finally it seems Jersey has the upper hand in the territory war and the kids start to cheer him on.

The black bear has had enough of the watchdog and attempts to squeeze past and escape the garden.

The brave pooch stays hot on the bear's heels as he pursues him, sending the bear scrambling and stumbling into the woods.

As the animal slips in its attempt to flee, the children squeal with excitement that their dog has saved the day, as one shouts 'did you see it sliding'.
