Sony officially reveals 'the future of gaming' with its PlayStation 5 and new games including Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Resident Evil Village, and Gran Turismo 7 - as well as a teaser for NBA 2K21

Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5, the company's next generation gaming console planned for launch 'later this year.'
In a new video presentation titled 'The Future of Gaming,' Sony also revealed the PlayStation 5 will be available in two models.
One model will include a standard a disc drive, while a second option, called 'PlayStation 5 Digital Edition,' will lack a disc drive and likely only play games downloaded over the internet but not physical discs bought in stores.

As well as the new console, Sony took the opportunity to announce a redesigned controller and a host of accessories, including a wireless charging station for its DualSense controllers, a media remote control, PlayStation-branded over-the-ear headphones with 3D audio support and a new HD Camera with dual 1080p lenses
Sony did not announce a price point or launch date, but said it still plans to release the PlayStation 5 before the end of the year.
'Today's the day we've been looking forward to for years, where we get to show you just the games that demonstrate our belief that PlayStation 5 marks the biggest generational transition our industry has yet seen,' Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO, said.
Sony started its presentation by revealing PS5 owners will get GTA Online completely free at launch.
It then unveiled a range of new games, including new entries in familiar franchises such as Resident Evil Village, Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon 2: Forbidden West, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
The Marvel superhero game is a brand new game set in the same world — the Multiverse – as the well-received and hugely popular animated movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The video teasers released by Sony look exceptional, and the leading man is played by Miles Morales.
The company also showed off original titles, including Ghostwire Tokyo, a supernatural thriller set in a futuristic version of the Japanese capital; Stray, a game from publisher Annapurna Interactive that follows a cat living in a city of robots; and Returnal, a third-person shooter from Finnish studio Housemarque about an astronaut trapped on an alien planet.
As well as dazzling with a revamped line-up of revived favourites, Sony rolled out a teaser for NBA 2k21 showcasing the full graphic power of the PS5.
Rookie phenom Zion Williamson is seen dribbling on an empty court and dunking, but the detail in the movements is what caught the attention of fans around the world.
The simulation basketball game has an enormous following, particularly in the US, and Greg Thomas, co-founder of developer Visual Concepts, said the game has been 'built from the ground up to fully utilise the incredible power, speed and technology of PS5'.
Another game in the pipeline is Sackboy: A Big Adventure. it features the main character from LittleBig Planet and is a colourful, playful adventure game
'NBA 2K21 will feature drastically improved load speeds, visual fidelity on an unmatched level and an unrivaled breadth of content for basketball fans and players', an official statement reads.
'Fans can expect new game features, game modes, brand partnerships, social events, in-game experiences and a brand new soundtrack that will set the record as the most definitive collection of music ever assembled in a video game.'
Sony also revealed a remake of the popular PlayStation 3 game Demon's Souls, and an 'expanded and enhanced' version of 2013's Grand Theft Auto V, which will be released on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021.
A selection of accessories will allo be available for PS5, including a wireless charging station for its DualSense controllers, a media remote control for those who want to use it to stream video, and PlayStation-branded over-the-ear headphones with 3D audio support.
The console will feature an 8-coreAMD Zen 2 CPU, a powerful AMD RNDA 2 graphics processor, 3D audio output, and a speedy solid-state drive that will help games load faster.
