The pair two allegedly became involved in a fight on the sidewalk, before Murray pulled out a knife and 'fatally stabbed Nichols five times'.
Police combed through surveillance footage that reportedly showed 'Murray chasing the victim with a knife and assaulting him'.
Officers who had responded to Morel's fall outside the building earlier in the day quickly assumed  the two incidents were linked.
'The cops who had been there earlier for the woman out the window had come back, and when they saw the video, they knew it was Dwayne Murray'' the law enforcement official told the Post.
Murray is now being held behind bars without bail.
